Spring Training Events 2019: Inclusive Practice

NADP has started offering training workshops to offer more targeted CPD for our members and those in related fields. We successfully ran workshops on Inclusive Practice at Edinburgh University and the University of the West of England last year and we have been asked to repeat this training in other areas of the country.

Your workshop: “Introducing Inclusive Practice (and how to talk to academic staff about it)!”
The inclusion workshop starts with the fundamental principles of inclusive practice and is therefore aimed at disability practitioners who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding in this increasingly important area. This could be to prepare for career advancement or to enhance capacity as an adviser to engage with academic staff when attempting to advocate for improvements to the disabled student experience.
Please note that this workshop is not aimed at those looking at developing strategic approaches to inclusive practice implementation across the University.
This will be a genuinely interactive workshop sharing case studies and real examples in order to get to grips with both the broad and more specific interpretation and implementation of inclusive practices. There will be evidence and resources to take away that support the case for inclusive learning and teaching approaches and which address many of the myths and objections that are raised by others to avoid implementation.
There will also be an opportunity to look more deeply into the world of the academic practitioner (or lecturer to you and me) and the issues they are faced with, in order to better discuss with them realistic ways of moving the agenda forward.
The workshop will be led by Paddy Turner, formerly Chair of NADP and an Education Developer at Sheffield Hallam University. His unique combination of roles and experience gives Paddy an insight into the different worlds of both disability and academic practitioners and has resulted in him being in demand as a speaker, consultant and workshop leader at numerous HEI events both in the UK and abroad.
Paddy is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and was co-author of the section on ‘driving institutional change in inclusive practice’ of the Government sponsored guidance produced in January 2017: “Inclusive Teaching and Learning in Higher Education as a route to Excellence”.
Each session will run from 10:30 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 15:30 with an hour’s break for lunch in the middle. Delegates provide their own lunch which can be purchased locally if required.
The four-hour session will cost £95 per head for all attendees and there are strictly limited numbers at each venue to ensure that delegates have plenty of time to discuss the concepts and network with colleagues.
