Training: Introducing Inclusive Practice
Location: University of the West of England, Bristol EVENT COMPLETED
Location: The University of Edinburgh
This workshop is aimed at disability practitioners who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding in this increasingly important area. This could be to prepare for career advancement or to enhance your capacity as an adviser to engage with academic staff when attempting to advocate for improvements to the disabled student experience.
This will be a genuinely interactive workshop looking at case studies and real examples in order to get to grips with both the broad and more specific interpretation and implementation of inclusive practices. There will be evidence and resources to support the case for inclusive learning and teaching approaches and cut through some of the myths and objections that are raised to avoid implementation.
We will also look more deeply into the world of the academic practitioner (or lecturer to you and me) and the issues they are faced with, in order to better discuss with them realistic ways of moving the agenda forward.
The workshop will be led by Paddy Turner, Chair of NADP and an Education Developer at Sheffield Hallam University. Paddy’s unique combination of roles and experience gives him an insight into the different worlds of both disability and academic practitioners. This has resulted in him being in demand as a speaker, consultant and workshop leader at numerous HEI events both in the UK and abroad.
Paddy is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and was co-author of the section on ‘driving institutional change in inclusive practice’ of the Government sponsored guidance produced in January 2017: “Inclusive Teaching and Learning in Higher Education as a route to Excellence”.
Please note that places for each of these workshops are limited to 40 attendees so that everyone gets the opportunity to participate in quality discussion.
