A Visiting Lecturer (VL) can provide students with welcome opportunities to learn from a diverse range of established professionals, or colleagues visiting from other institutions, and thereby give enrichment to a programme which can be valuable for students. It is important to establish however that all learning on a course is delivered in a way which is consistent and equally accessible by all students.

Consequently it is a necessary condition of contracting a VL that they adhere to the same requirements for all lecturers, however prestigious the speaker. Like others such VLs need to ensure that the lecture they deliver is accessible to all, and in particular that slides or reading materials are sent in ahead and made available to students in advance.
