Pioneering. Liberating. Different. You will contribute to a student-centred specialist advice and guidance service for disabled students and applicants and those with specific learning differences (SPLDs) and medium- to long-term health conditions. You will maintain your own case work portfolio, providing advice and assistance for individual applicants and current students, and oversee arrangements for their support, enabling them to access their studies and encourage academic progress and student retention.
You’ll have substantial knowledge of the issues affecting disabled students undertaking courses of higher education, gained through experience of advising on disability related matters. You will have excellent interviewing and case-working skills and be highly organised with an ability to manage competing priorities and workloads. You’ll be able to remain calm and professional in a busy and pressured environment and when dealing with challenging and difficult situations. You’ll be able to form effective networks with academic and professional colleagues and be able to communicate complex legislative and regulatory issues to a wide range of audiences from students to senior academic colleagues.
