Aless McCann

Aless McCann has worked at the Disability Resource Centre, University of Cambridge for the last 9 years in various roles. For five years she ran Cambridge’s Non-Medical Helper scheme and mentored students. She was appointed to the role of Disability Adviser in 2016 to cover a colleague’s maternity leave and then again on a permanent basis in 2018. In this role she works with students who have mental health conditions, long term health conditions and physical & sensory impairments.

She completed an MA in Disability Studies at Leeds University in 2012. This course included modules analysing different models of disability and her dissertation examined the barriers preventing higher education students with hidden impairments disclosing. Since she finished the course she stays in touch with developments within Disability Studies and regularly attends and presents at the Lancaster Centre for Disability Research conference. Recently, Aless has also worked on the Disability and Inclusion Africa project at Lancaster University. She is committed to promoting inclusion and the principles of Universal Design for Learning.

In Spring 2020 Aless became an NADP Accredited Member and she joined the NADP Board in September 2020.
